Come to Qingdao!

Qingdao on the east coast of China is the venue for the All China Nash Hash 2010. It’s on the southern side of the Shandong peninsula, pretty much in the middle between Beijing and Shanghai.

The town became a German concession in 1897 and since then it grew into one of the most vibrant cities in China. One of China’s most famous products comes from this city: Tsingtao Beer. Hashers and beer lovers all over the world will know this tasty beer. It is also home to other big brands such as Haier or Hisense.

Even though Qingdao calls itself a “Sailing City” (the Olympic Sailing regatta in 2008 was hosted here) it is also a great place for running. The old alleys in the old colonial town are worth exploring and many old houses are being restored at the moment. Adventurous runners can also explore the remaining bomb shelters and tunnels under the old city.

Just outside Qingdao lies the Laoshan Nature Park which is a cradle for taoism and considered one of the holy mountains for taoists. The park is filled with lakes, streams, old temples and amazing views.

Come and refresh yourself with local seafood which is caught just outside Qingdao. Qingdao’s specialty “spicy fried clams” (la gala) are known all over China. And of course you can drink the freshest Tsingtao beer in this city! It’s sold on almost every streetcorner and if you want you can buy it by weight (the beer is then filled in a plastic bag).

Qingdao has it all. Beaches, mountains, fresh beer and great food.

All China Nash Hash 2010 in Qingdao

Ok Hashers, we've put together a program offers you interesting runs and always enough fresh beer to fill your bellies. The venue that was chosen is a 4 star hotel that has rooms starting at 200 RMB all the way up to 1400 RMB, so everybody should find something. And as a nice bonus, you can also use the pool of the hotel (yes, even if you only booked the cheapest room). On Friday we'll drink the freshest beer in town right at the famous Tsingtao brewery. Saturday we head out to the Laoshan Nature park which offers enough space and scenery for several interesting trails for all levels and we finish up near the beach. Saturday night we start with a dinner in the main venue and then head next door to get totally drunk. Sunday a nice hangover run in the old town is waiting for you, again finishing near the water.

Venue and accommodation

The address of the venue is:

Hai Qing Hotel, 11 Donghai Middle Road, Qingdao. Tel: (0532) 8596 9888

You can have a look at the hotel here: Hai Qing Hotel Qingdao While you can reserve rooms through websites like Ctrip or Elong, you can also contact the hotel directly. They have about 400 rooms which should be enough but it's still high season so better book the hotel early.

The contact person at the hotel is Meng Fan Yun (Maria) and her phone number is (0532) 8596 9888 - 6384. Her email is mfy6667 @ sina.com. Please mention the "China Nash Hash" so that she knows why you contact her. And please keep in mind, this lady speaks only limited English (which is a bit weird for a 4 star hotel though).

If you prefer other accommodation then try to find something in the new city center near the city government or the Olympic Sailing Center. You might want to try the following hotels: Sanfood Hotel (on Hong Kong Middle road), Sunny World Hotel (on Shantou Road) or if you are looking for another budget place, Home Inn (on Hong Kong Middle Road).

Room prices per night, including breakfast and pool access (on selected rooms, for more details please ask at the hotel):

Last words

Thanks for reading all this. This information was put online just before Christmas 2009 and there's still a lot of chances for things to change. We've put together this program and information to the best of our knowledge. If you still have any questions now then please contact us. There will be more information coming up online and you can check back here every now and then. We will probably also change the layout of this section later to make it easier to read.

On on! in Qingdao in September 2010,
