About Us and Qingdao

We are a social running group that enjoys a bit of running and a lot of beer. We have been in Qingdao since August 2003 when the Hash was founded by 007 and Hangover who have been hashing in other places before and were missing an organisation for public drinking and other debauchery. Since then there have been over 170 runs in Qingdao and we're still going strong (well, depending on our hangover). Every second Saturday we meet in the lobby of the Crowne Plaza hotel and from there we go to the starting point of the run.

We're all no athletes and a Hash run is not a race - there's no prize waiting for you at the end. Just beer and other refreshments. Every runner can run at their own speed and walking is also no problem. A Hash pack is a social group that welcomes everybody. We have Chinese as well as foreign runners in our group.

A typical run would start in some nice area of Qingdao. We get there together from the Crowne Plaza and then we have to look for the correct way. Our trail is marked with arrows, circles, crosses and more. All with their own meaning and all to lead us to the finish. The exact location of the finish is secret and the runners have to find the right way to find the finishing point. During the run we might stop for a song or beer. When all the runners are safely at the finishing point then we start another Hash tradition: the circle or Down Down. That's where we sing a few naughty songs, drink beer (or water etc) and have some fun. And after that whoever wants can go and have dinner together. That's pretty much all you can expect on a run. Keep in mind that all runs are different and sometimes it can be harsh while other times it can be very mild.

Every Hash group around the world is a different and here in Qingdao we sing a bit more than in other cities. And I think we're not as strict as some other cities. It's best just to come for a run and see if you like it or not.
